Educational Programs
Our Youth Programs are bilingual (English and Spanish) which provide educational support while creating pride in culture and language. Our high-quality programs are supported by Kalamazoo Youth Development Network (KYD Net).
Elementary Literacy Program
ELP is an after-school reading program for students in grades K-4 that is offered once a week in our Voices office.
This program was started by the Voces Youth Council as a "Reading Buddy" program. ELP has now added a new element of activities and projects to enrich literacy skills in both English and Spanish. Projects are created through thematic plans that connect literacy with other subjects, such as math, science, social studies, art, culture, social emotional learning and more.

We offer different levels, from Introductory to Level 4 classes. Levels 1-4 is taught by our instructor with more than 20 years of experience, Mary Okamoto. Prior to starting class, you will need to fill out the enrollment form, which can be done by clicking the link below. Following the completion of the form, you will need to come in to our office to take two placement tests. After the test, you will join the classes where students from various countries come together to learn English and share their experiences about life here in the United States. Our books and lessons use listening, speaking, reading, and even writing about everyday topics and situations. Join us to study and have fun!
